FIJI Airways' subsidiary Fiji Link has opened its new VIP lounge at Nadi International Airport known as The Flying Fijian Club.

It was officially opened on Wednesday by Fiji Airways Group managing director and chief executive officer Andre Viljoen with members of the Fiji Airways national 7s team as the first guests.

The Flying Fijian Club is a by-invitation-only lounge dedicated to Fiji Link's VIP guests and all Fijian national rugby teams sponsored by the Fiji Airways Group.

The Flying Fijian Club incorporates a sports bar theme and caters for up to 40 guests.

The club offers wifi, beverages, a workstation, television and a meeting room.

The most striking feature of the club is the unique collection of sporting memorabilia which adorns the walls.

These include autographed rugby jerseys from various Fijian rugby teams over the years as well as an autographed jersey from the 2017 Super Rugby champions, the BNZ Crusaders.

There are various other autographed sporting artefacts from athletes like Roy Krishna and Jarryd Hayne.

Fiji Airways national 7s coach Gareth Baber, on behalf of Fiji Rugby Union and all national teams, thanked the airline for the initiative.

"When people do things like this, it gives us a huge boost," Baber said.

"We always know that when we get a good experience, it becomes part of our process. And that part of the process, which takes a bit of pain away when we are travelling as much as we do, is phenomenal for us in terms of being able to up our performance level."

Speaking at the official opening Viljoen said the Fiji Airways Group was making significant customer service enhancements to guests of both airlines.

"We recently opened our brand new Fiji Airways premier lounge for VIP guests travelling internationally and our team worked hard in parallel to complete The Flying Fijian Club for our VIP domestic guests," he said.

"By extending the guest list to include all Fiji Airways national rugby teams, we are demonstrating our commitment to Fiji Rugby."

The teams which are invited to the lounge include the Fiji Airways national 7s team, the Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s, the Fiji Airways Flying Fijians, the Fiji Airways women's 15s team and the Fiji Airways Drua.

The Flying Fijian Club is located 'landside' at the Nadi International Airport departure terminal with easy access from the domestic terminal.
