THE Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) Penang Golf Club will launch its junior golf competition tomorrow with a Chemtec Solutions-sponsored seven holes stroke event.

This is the first time a junior golf program will take place in Rakiraki.

Ten children have been training and practising in the past two months.

"We see potential in these kids and they are enthusiastic in taking up golf," club president Anish Chand said.

The club has designed a separate program for junior golfers to allow them to play in their own tournament every Saturday.

"They will start playing on five holes and this will gradually increase as they improve their performance."

Resident professional Rakesh Chandra has been teaching the junior golfers, who are all secondary school students, through clinics and practice runs.

Meanwhile, the club will stage the 2018 Pacific Energy season opening tournament on Sunday with a 36-hole stroke tournament.

"Pacific Energy has been with us for two years and we are thankful to them for sponsoring our season opening this year," Chand said.

Reporting on Sunday is at 8am.
