Woman, 27, takes stand

A 27-YEAR-OLD woman who was allegedly raped by a 60-year-old man was yesterday questioned by High Court judge Justice Salesi Temo to explain in court why she reported the alleged incident to police two years after it took place.

While taking the witness stand for the prosecution yesterday, the complainant said she was afraid to report the matter to police because her husband did not help her to report it.

She claimed in court that her husband did not believe her story.

Justice Temo then told the complainant she was old enough to report the matter to police.

The accused, Govind Sami, is charged with two counts of rape and one count of indecently insulting or annoying a person.

The trial continues today.
