Friday, February 09, 2018

Update: 6:03PM MORE health professionals in Fiji are needed to develop health services in Tuvalu after a successful health exchange program between the two countries.

Fiji's Minister for Health and Medical Services Rosy AKbar met her Tuvaluan counterpart Satini Manuella and his team who are in Fiji to look at new areas of collaboration, particularly in health sector development.

Mrs Akbar expressed Fiji's desire to work closely with the Tuvaluan health ministry in areas of skill exchange programs, training of medical professionals and sharing of health expertise.

Meanwhile, Mr Manuella commended Fijian nurses for their health services in Tuvalu.

"I am very pleased with the level of their competency and commitment and there are plans to engage more health professionals from Fiji. We are also very pleased to meet with Fiji's Minister for Health today to look at the way forward to strengthen our collaboration in the health services," he said.

"One of them is to look at the attachment of our professionals in your ministry or in the hospitals here. We are also going to explore the areas of training of our medical students and also if they can pursue their medical studies here in Fiji."
