IUCN network marks 70th year anniversary

Friday, February 09, 2018

Update: 4:22PM THE International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Oceania regional office yesterday launched their 70th-year anniversary in Suva.

IUCN acting Regional Program Coordinator Andrew Foran said IUCN was formed in 1948 in Europe where it was considered the largest environmental network on the planet.

Mr Foran said the key part of the organisation was the 10,000 experts that worked across a range of fields.

"The key part of the machine that works behind the scenes is over 10,000 experts that are from a range of field across the planet," he said.

"We have 1400 members in 160 different countries but here in Oceania, we have 54 members that consist of both State and regional organisations."
