Update: 2:06PM AN exporters' consultation on the forest industry was conducted in Suva this week to inform and educate stakeholders on the sector's processes and legislation.

In opening the half-day session, Ministry of Forests acting permanent secretary Bernadette Welch said the consultation was carried out to discuss industry and exporter concerns on export restrictions, requirements, environmental impact assessments and other issues regarding both environment and forest regulations.

"This consultation provides us with a platform to discuss how we can work together in consultation, addressing the socio economic and environmental concerns and come up with solutions within the scope of our policies and laws," said Ms Welch.

"Any environmental activity we do within natural resource areas needs consideration on the long term impacts, availability of these resources and the environmental services it offers for future generations."
