NADI-BASED Jet Runners Club has shown interest to compete in the 2018 Island Chill-sponsored Suva Marathon which will be held in July.

Club president Abhinesh Kumar said they were looking forward to the race.

"We are thinking of taking a team to the Suva Marathon and we had a good record in the previous races," Kumar said.

"We always work together to develop athletes in Fiji and we will continue to work for their betterment.

"It is a race where people can also fight non-communicable diseases and living a healthy living. If one trains and participate in such races, people will always stay healthy. I encourage people to come and participate in the events."

Kumar had been an athlete who represented Fiji in the 2003 Pacific Games in Suva and had been actively participating and contributing to the development of athletics in Fiji.

"We should make the most of such events as sporting events bring people together," he said.

"We have not decided on the number of athletes at this stage as we will have to see how many athletes will come and compete in our own competition to select a team for the Suva race."

The Suva Marathon will be held on July 21.
