Police, soldiers join weather watch team

LAW enforcers have joined the weather monitoring team in the North.

Commissioner Northern Jovesa Vocea said his team had expanded as other government ministries had joined in monitoring the weather.

However, he said, they monitored from their own offices and updated his team based at the Northern disaster management operations centre.

"Police and soldiers have joined us in monitoring the weather and visiting affected sites. Officials from the Water Authority of Fiji have also come on board," he said.

"The team from the ministries of education and health are monitoring from their offices and we are pleading to all members of the communities to keep safe.

We are aware of crossings in low lying areas that are underwater today (yesterday) and our teams have been to these places."

Mr Vocea pleaded with families living in low lying areas to take precautionary measures.

"If anything, please move to higher grounds or safety areas during daylight and stay safe," he said.
