FEO sends warning

THOSE who misinform the public about the work of the Fijian Elections Office will be taken to task.

That's the warning from the Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem, after he noticed an increase in activities on social media from some individuals named as candidates for some political parties for this year's general election.

"We note that some of them are complete misinformation," Mr Saneem said.

"There is one particular person who seems to be taking a very thorough and a very aggressive language against the Fijian Elections Office.

"My message to this person is the FEO is an independent election management body and should the person have any clarification that he or she needs, please walk up.

"We are ready to walk up and clarify things for you.

"If this continues then we will take the necessary action.

"There are some misrepresentation of laws still in this country that can qualify for social media and we will not hesitate to take the necessary action."

However, Mr Saneem said the FEO would like to first talk with these individuals to ensure that people who had doubts were able to receive clarification.

"And we hope that common sense will prevail, especially in relation to the allegations that are coming wildly against the FEO," he added.
