5.4 mag earthquake in Tonga region

Update: 11:38AM A 5.4 MAGNITUDE earthquake occurred in the Tonga region this morning.

The Seismology Unit of the Department of Mineral Resources reported that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10km.

It was registered at 182km North north-west from Alofi, Niue; 435km South south-east from Apia, Samoa and 1152km East from Suva, Fiji.

The department noted that this seismic activity did not pose an immediate threat to the Fiji region.
