Renewed commitment

THE winner of this year's ANZ Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards from the emerging tourism leader category will receive advanced, customised training and mentoring from the trustees of the organisation.

FETA chairperson Bill Whiting made the announcement yesterday as ANZ confirmed its continued commitment to the premier tourism awards for the next two years.

Mr Whiting said they deeply appreciated ANZ's support for the awards.

"The sponsorship is vital in enabling the trustees to recognise and acknowledge those individuals and companies who set an aspirational standard of excellence in tourism," he said.

"Fiji has a strong growing tourism industry, which with government support is setting exceptionally high standards and achieving record numbers of visitor arrivals," said Mr Whiting.

ANZ Fiji country head Saud Minam said the bank had been a longtime supporter of the Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards.

"These are the most prestigious tourism awards in Fiji, and we're delighted to be associated with this great event," he said.

Mr Minam said ANZ had been the naming rights sponsor for the event since 2015 and prior to that, a gold sponsor.

"We believe that by supporting the awards, we're helping to provide a valuable platform for Fiji's tourism industry to grow and embrace global best-practice by recognising sustainable and innovative business practices."

Although the sponsorship amount was not revealed, Mr Whiting confirmed that the amount had doubled compared with the past years.

He said part of the sponsorship money would be used by the trustees on getting additional courses, training and mentoring programs for emerging tourism leaders in the industry.

The annual event will next be held at the Sheraton Resort, Denarau, on Saturday 17 February, bringing together tourism operators from across Fiji to reward and recognise champions of the industry.
