New solar power for school

DAYS of experiencing intermittent power supply at a primary school in Macuata will now be an issue of the past.

Yesterday, kind donors who purchased and installed the solar power system at the Qumusea District School commissioned the facility.

The school depended on generators over the past years.

The solar power system, purchased by donors in Australia and owners of Nukubati Private Island Resort, will provide a reliable, cleaner and environmentally-friendly power supply to the school.

Commissioning the facility, Commissioner Northern Jovesa Vocea thanked the donors for their great help.

He said the facility would greatly assist teachers and students with their academic and administration work.

Mr Vocea encouraged students to make good use of the solar system. In doing this, he reminded them that they would excel in their studies and achieve their dreams.

He pleaded with parents to support their children because it was their role to do so.

Nukubati Private Island Resort owner Peter Bourke thanked the communities for their support towards the school, an institution that he had helped in many ways.

Mr Bourke told students and parents that installing the solar system at the school with no burdened cost on communities showed how the donors valued the children's education.

He told them that donors in Australia raised funds for the project and the remaining funds needed to complete the project installation was topped up by his resort.

School manager Ilaitia Vuacati said the high costs derived from using diesel generators would now end.

"This is a lighter burden for us and we are blessed to have Nukubati Private Island Resort team with us because they have always supported our children's education," he said."
