A HEAVY RAIN WARNING REMAINS IN FORCE FOR KADAVU, LAU GROUP, VANUA LEVU, TAVEUNI AND NEARBY SMALLER ISLANDS AND IS NOW IN FORCE FOR LOMAIVITI GROUP, YASAWA AND MAMANUCA GROUP, NORTHERN AND WESTERN PARTS OF VITI LEVU. A HEAVY RAIN ALERT REMAINS IN FORCE FOR THE REST OF FIJI.

A FLOOD ALERT REMAINS IN FORCE FOR THE LOW LYING AREAS, SMALL STREAMS AND AREAS DOWNSTREAM OF DREKETILAILAI STATION TO QAWA RIVER AND FOR ALL LOW LYING AREAS AND SMALL STREAMS FOR VANUA LEVU.

Situation: A dominant moist northwesterly wind flow prevails over Fiji with the trough of low pressure just to the west of the country. Meanwhile Tropical Depression 08F lies just to the south of Fiji and is moving south away from the group. Another significant tropical disturbance, TD07F, currently to the far northwest of Fiji, near Vanuatu, is expected to move towards Fiji, gradually intensify into a tropical depression, and possibly affect the group from Thursday.

Forecast to midnight tonight for the Fiji group: Periods of rain, heavy times and squally thunderstorms over Yasawa, Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands and Lau group with occasional rain over Kadavu, Lomaiviti group, Yasawa na Mamanuca group, northern and western parts of Viti Levu. Elsewhere, afternoon or evening. Isolated heavy falls and thunderstorms epected. Showers possibly increasing to rain later today. Localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding of low lying areas. Moderate to fresh northwest winds, gusty at times. Moderate to rough seas.

Outlook for Thursday : Periods of rain and thunderstorms over most places. Northwesterly winds 40km/hr to 50km/hr gusting to 65km/hr.

For Navua / Suva / Nausori : Fine apart from afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms. Isolated heavy falls expected. Outlook for Thursday : Occasional rain and few thunderstorms.

For Nadi / Lautoka / Ba : Occasional rain. Isolated thunderstorms and heavy falls expected in the afternoon or evening. Outlook for Thursday : Periods of rain and thunderstorms.

For Labasa : Periods of rain, heavy times and squally thunderstorms. Outlook for Thursday : Periods of rain and thunderstorms. Northwesterly winds 40km/hr to 50km/hr gusting to 65km/hr.

For Savusavu : Periods of rain, heavy times and squally thunderstorms. Outlook for Thursday : Periods of rain and thunderstorms. Northwesterly winds 40km/hr to 50km/hr gusting to 65km/hr

For Rotuma : A STRONG WIND WARNING REMAINS IN FORCE FOR ROTUMA LAND AREA AND WATERS.

Situation: An active trough of low pressure with associated rain and thunderstorms affects Rotuma. Over Land: North to northwest winds 40 km/hr to 55 km/hr, gusting to 70km/hr.

Over Waters: North to northwest winds 20 to 30 knots, gusting to 35 knots. Rough to very rough seas. Moderate northerly swells Periods of heavy rain and squally thunderstorms.

Outlook for Thursday : Rain and thunderstorms continuing.

A STRONG WIND WARNING REMAINS IN FORCE FOR VANUA LEVU AND LAU WATERS, KORO SEA, VATU-I-RA AND KADAVU PASSAGES.

Situation: A dominant moist northwesterly wind flow prevails over Fiji with the trough of low pressure just to the west of the country. Meanwhile Tropical Depression 08F lies just to the south of Fiji and is moving south away from the group. Another significant tropical disturbance, TD07F, currently to the far northwest of Fiji near Vanuatu is expected to move towards Fiji and gradually intensify into a tropical depression and may affect the group from Thursday.

Forecast to 6am tomorrow for Fiji waters: For Vanua Levu and Lau waters, Koro sea, Vatu-i-Ra and Kadavu passages: Northwesterly winds 20 to 25 knots. Rough seas. Moderate northerly swells. Poor visibility in areas of heavy rain and thunderstorms.

Further outlook: Northwesterly winds 20 to 30 knots. Rough to very rough seas. Moderate northwesterly swells.

For the rest of Fiji Waters: Northwesterly winds 15 to 20 knots. Winds gusty at times. Moderate to rough seas. Moderate northerly swells. Poor visibility in areas of heavy rain and thunderstorms.

Further outlook: West to northwest winds 15 to 20 knots, gusty at times. Moderate to rough seas. Moderate northerly swells.
