BIRTHDAY boy Eroni Sau hopes to put on a better performance for Fiji in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.

Fiji Airways Fiji 7s hard man Sau, who hails from Yasawa, was surprised by his family members who turned up with a cake to celebrate his 28th birthday at the Nadi International Airport.

"The more you go out there and play, the more experience you get and the more you play the better you become," Sau said.

"When playing at international level you need to improve and focus on what your coach and trainer intruct you to perform.

"I am so proud of myself.

"This was my first international tournament to win with some new and experienced folks and we are over the moon.It is hard work that pays off. At home they know that I don't celebrate my birthday but when they turned up here, I feel proud and blessed.

"There will be three bowls of kava and back to training for the series."
