MP grills FRA on roadworks

Wednesday, February 07, 2018

OPPOSITION member on the Standing Committee on Public Accounts Aseri Radrodro questioned the Fiji Roads Authority on what it was doing to prevent unnecessary traffic congestion along the Suva-Nausori corridor.

"Just on this road upgrades happening around the Suva-Nausori CBD, do you have any completion schedule?" Mr Radrodro said.

In response to Mr Radrodro, FRA chief financial officer Robert Sen said they had been creating public awareness to inform the public about the authority's roadworks.

Mr Sen said they had put out conditions to contractors not to work in high-volume traffic areas during certain times.

"A lot of public awareness is sent to the media and we would inform the public where FRA is working and we are trying to put that information on our website," Mr Sen said.

"We have put the conditions on some of the contractors who are working on the high-volume traffic areas that they cannot be on the site from 6am to 8am and from 4pm to 7pm, which means they are not supposed to be working on the site because of the travelling period.

"We do have regular meetings with other stakeholders in terms of LTA and police. Sometimes there are unforeseen reasons."
