Voters list out soon

FIJIANS living in villages and communities will soon have access to the provisional voters list.

A press statement issued by the Fijian Elections Office last week stated that the provisional voters list would be distributed to district advisory councils and village headmen around the country after a successful meeting with the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs.

Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem said the FEO had commenced the verification of the 2018 General Election provisional voters list through the use of district advisory councillors and the turaga ni koro.

"We are still well ahead of time to allow Fijians who have changed their residential address to apply and have their polling details amended," Mr Saneem said.

"This is to avoid any inconvenience on election day if voters do not change their venues in time."

Mr Saneem said the FEO expected the distribution of the provisional voters list to take at least three weeks.

He said by the time the national voter registration drive started, FEO hoped to have received the entire provisional voters list back, in order for it to be prepared to make necessary changes when teams visited the various locations on the ground.

The provisional voters list can also be accessed on the FEO website and any Fijian can visit the website on if they wish to do so.

The FEO will also launch a SMS platform for Fijians, whereby they can text in their voter number to verify polling stations details.
