NFP candidate eager to serve

AT the age of 24, Shanal Sivan says he is eager to serve the people.

The former television journalist is a provisional candidate for the National Federation Party (NFP).

Mr Sivan said deciding to enter politics was not a hard decision for him as he was always "people focused", even when doing his reports in the mainstream media.

"I still receive calls, emails from people asking me if I can fight their battle," he claimed.

Mr Sivan said he wanted to take people's issues before policy makers even though he was no longer in the mainstream media.

"I have been fighting for the people when I was in the news industry. I have been taking their issues to Government.

"There were a lot of issues faced by people, so I have decided to stand for elections and help them further — and why not enter into politics and Parliament to better serve them."

He said he chose NFP because it was a party of principle, good governance and had issues facing the youths at heart.

"This (NFP) party stands with the people and understands their issues. I want to focus on issues concerning young people.

"I want to talk about how difficult it is to find a job, how difficult it is to earn a decent living for young people."
