A PLAN to build a new health centre at the Vunivivi hill outside Nausori Town has been cancelled, says Health Minister Rosy Akbar.

Ms Akbar said the ministry was still trying to locate a space to build the medical facility.

"The last time we updated Parliament is that we are still trying to locate a space," Ms Akbar said.

She said the initial space was identified at Vunivivi hill, however, builders couldn't do the structure that the ministry wanted.

"I think it's with construction implementation unit at the Ministry of Economy, they should be able to advise you more on the site that has been found."

Ms Akbar also said there were no allocations for the facility in this year's budget.

"So at the moment, the old one stays and this year's budget did not give us anything on the new health centre," she said.

Nausori Town Council CEO Akhtar Ali said the current location of the health centre would be more suitable to people in the municipality.

"There were some talks that they would just build it in the same location.

"That was my discussion with the subdivisional medical officer because the location is more suitable for elderly people, women and children to access medical services," Mr Ali said.

"When they will redevelop that, it will be the most comprehensive hospital.

"It is something like a green building, where energy conservation will be present."

Meanwhile, the ministry was allocated $321.2 million in the 2017-2018 National Budget.
