Sacrilege case called

Tuesday, February 06, 2018

A 22-YEAR-OLD man who was allegedly involved in the desecration of a temple at Wainibuku in Nausori had his bail application rejected by the Nasinu Magistrate Court yesterday.

Varasiko Adrole is charged with one count of sacrilege.

Police prosecutor Constable Krishan Keshwan objected to the bail application on the grounds that the case was of national interest and the accused had other pending cases before the courts.

The accused was charged with three other people for aggravated robbery at the Dignified Cremations Ltd at Davuilevu last week.

Magistrate Charles Ratakele called for a formal bail hearing next Friday. Mr Adrole has been remanded in custody.

Meanwhile, police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed a man in his 20s has been arrested and charged for his alleged involvement in the desecration of a temple at Sasawira, Nakasi, last month.

Ms Naisoro said the man was arrested by a police team in Kadavu during the weekend.

The suspect is expected to be escorted by police officers to Suva and will be produced at the Nasinu Magistrates Court later this week.

He has been charged with one count of sacrilege.
