Warning for parents

COMMISSIONER Northern Jovesa Vocea has sent a strong warning to parents and guardians to monitor their children's whereabouts during adverse weather.

Mr Vocea said with the preparation to keep the people informed about the weather updates in the North, he set up a skeleton team that would closely monitor weather patterns.

"We started our operation last Friday where our skeleton team submitted a six-hour report to the National Disaster Management team in Suva as we update them with the latest weather," he said.

Mr Vocea said the only place they were worried about in the North was the Savudrodro flats, which was closed to the public.

"I strongly advise parents and guardians to please take heed of the weather situation and monitor your children's whereabouts," he said.

"Don't go out swimming because currents can be too strong, stay indoors and avoid getting sick during this weather because most roads could be closed and it would be hard to go to the hospital."

Mr Vocea added a lot of children were still seen swimming across flooded rivers and that had to stop.

"This is for everyone's safety so please take heed of this advice."
