Funeral assistance among changes in withdrawal policies

Update: 3:06PM CONCERNS raised by members of the public on the need to increase funeral assistance for Fiji National Provident Fund withdrawals have seen an increase in the maximum funeral assistance to $2000 from $1500 for FNPF members.

This change came into effect on February 1 this year and there are also additional changes to withdrawal policies on medical assistance, housing requirements and lease arrangements.

For medical partial withdrawals, FNPF stated assistance covered prosthetics, hearing aid and wheelchairs.

Requirements for housing needs have also been streamlined and members now only need one quotation each for a surveyor, labour for self-build projects and a general contractor quotation.

"Title searches should not be more than 30 working days as previously it was 20 working days and quantity surveyors report is now only required for projects exceeding $30,000," the FNPF stated.

For lease arrangements, members who have unregistered leases can now access housing assistance and purchase property from the iTaukei Land Trust Board or Ministry of Lands or from a vendor to survey or build a house.

FNPF has also given assistance for agricultural lease for a term of at least 10 years.

For village housing, the FNPF stated members could access assistance for more than one house within the village boundary if their funds suffice.
