Mocenacagi out

Maikeli Seru In Hamilton, New Zealand
Monday, February 05, 2018

FIJI Airways Fiji 7s rep Sevuloni Mocenacagi did not play in the final of the Hamilton 7s in New Zealand yesterday.

Mocenacagi was suspended for two matches after he was charged for dangerous play by World Rugby during the quarter-final against Samoa.

World Rugby said Mocenacagi and Samoa's Gordon Langkilde were suspended after they were charged for similar offences.

"Sevuloni Mocenacagi and Samoa's Gordon Langkilde were each cited under law 9.12 for a dangerous tackle with a striking arm," said World Rugby judicial officer Helen Morgan.

She said Mocenacagi's tackle, in which a striking arm made contact with the opposing player's head, was dangerous.

Sevuloni admitted the offence and was remorseful.

The player's good record and his place as a leader on the Fiji team saved him from a two-week suspension.

Mocenacagi missed the semi-final against New Zealand and the final against South Africa.
