SIXTY-one-year-old Reapi Lauji could not hold back her tears as she watched her eldest grandchild being inducted the head boy of Gospel High School and president of the GHS Christian Fellowship group.

She has taken care of Timoci Ratulevu since he was four years old.

The proud grandmother described him as an "talented and obedient child".

"His parents went their own separate ways when he was only four so I decided to take him in despite the challenges," she said.

"I believe that if parents teach their children the importance of putting God first, everything will go well.

"I am looking after seven of my grandchildren right now and today seeing my grandson being inducted head boy is such a proud moment for us as a family and we are thankful to God."

Chief guest, Attorney-General and Minister for Education Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum reminded the school leaders to be diligent and honest in the roles they had been entrusted with.

"To be able to ensure that as a leader you must always be able to not just treat people equally but to speak the truth irrespective of what the consequences may be," Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said.

He also encouraged students to choose a career that they were passionate about.

Ninety-four students were inducted as school prefects and class captains of GHS.
