$171k assistance

LEARNING in the school library and the computer lab will soon be a thing of the past for students of Lautoka Delana Primary School.

This, after the school was handed $171,050.84 from the Japanese Government last month for the construction of two school blocks. Headteacher Joeli Derenalagi said the lack of classrooms had been an issue for them.

"The problem that we faced was lack of classrooms, we had to use our library and at the moment we are using our computer room as a classroom," Mr Derenalagi said.

"This will enhance our teaching and learning because of the extra space."

Japanese ambassador to Fiji Masahiro Omura said the project aimed to further develop the education sector.

"This project is consistent with the key objectives of Japan's GGP (Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects) program," Mr Masahiro said.

"I wish to commend the recipient organisation by acknowledging your important roles in providing education and consistent and safe water supply to communities in Fiji."
