Hoteliers doing well amid water shut down

THE Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association has received positive feedback from members in Nadi and Lautoka where residents are experiencing a four-day water shut down.

FHTA chief executive officer Fantasha Lockington said most hotels in Nadi and Lautoka had their own back up storage tanks.

Ms Lockington said many of the hotels had more than enough supply to cater for their guests and staff.

Meanwhile, work on the leaking Vanessa Valve at the Nagado Treatment Plant was completed early yesterday morning.

According to the Water Authority of Fiji, repair works were completed at 4am today.

WAF chief operating officer Samanmal Ekanayake said the repair of the leaking valve was successfully completed within its expected timeframe.

"The next step is to 'charge the line' or refill the pipeline network from the Vaturu Dam to the Nagado Water Treatment Plant," he said.

He said water supply from Vaturu to Nagado was expected to normalise by 3pm yesterday.

"Once water supply is normalised from Vaturu to Nagado, a five-metre level of raw water is required for treatment to commence and all these steps should be within the given timeframe for restoration, which is Tuesday at 5pm."
