MSAF search for owner of wrecked fishing vessel

Update: 2:43PM THE Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji is searching for the owners of a foreign fishing vessel which was found drifting in Taveuni waters last month.

Chief executive officer John Tunidau said in an interview with The Fiji Times they were informed of the wrecked vessel.

Mr Tunidau also clarified that the authority was not responsible for handling wrecked vessels as such.

"The boat was towed into the shallows by boat operators in Taveuni after it was found drifting in waters close to the island," he said.

"Unfortunately the vessel is not registered in Fiji and therefore we do not have jurisdiction over the boat."
