THE Martintar 7s tournament organisers have joined the Government's campaign on climate change with the theme of protecting the environment to protect us for this year's event.

The funds raised from the two-day tournament will not only be used for its Cawa Methodist Church obligations, but also for clean-up campaigns to give Nadi which is the main port of entry for tourists a better image.

The tournament which is in its fifth year will be played at Prince Charles Park in Nadi from March 16-17.

Registration for the 32 men's format is open and the deadline is March 2. The tournament co-ordinator Biu Waqaniburotu said they would also team up with the Fiji Women's Crisis Centre to advocate on violence against women.

Waqaniburotu said part of the plan was to include a women's competition.

"Unfortunately last year we only had four women's teams," he said.

"We want to encourage women's rugby and invite teams to participate. At the moment the national women's team is struggling in the World Rugby HSBC series. This is because there is not much base here."
