FRA completes repairs to footbridges

THE people of Dibulu and Muanikoso in Narere, Nasinu will now have a much better and safer access to their two footbridges after the successful completion of the much-needed repairs by the Fiji Roads Authority.

The community raised their concerns in October last year when Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Vijay Nath paid a visit to the area with FRA representatives.

Community spokesman Mateo Taridovu said they used these footbridges for the past 40 years and were thankful to the Government for responding to their request in such a short period of time.

He said those two footbridges would benefit more than 300 people in the area.

FRA general manager network operations and maintenance Aram Goes said the design and planning along with sourcing of materials took time and unfortunately, this behind-the-scenes work and preparation was not visible to the general public.

"We have upgraded both the footbridges by redecking with new timber and bracing boards, this also includes a rope guide rail to assist the elderly and children safely," Mr Goes said.

These two crossings are not FRA assets and are old pipe-bridges which were converted by locals into footbridges because of the need to have a convenient crossing.
