Injury free

THE Fiji Airways Fiji 7s team will play Samoa this morning in the cup quarter-finals of the Hamilton 7s in New Zealand.

The national side went through unbeaten after three pool games, beating Wales 28-0, Spain 24-12 and Australia 26-15.

Coach Gareth Baber said the team was injury free after utility backline player Amenoni Nasilasila was rested midway into the second spell because of a niggling injury.

"We are through to the quarter-finals and that is where we wanted to be when we came into the competition," Baber said.

Fiji secured a quarter-final berth after the first two wins and was stretched to the wire by the Sydney 7s champs Australia.

"It was a good contest when Australia played some good rugby.

"We knew they would be tough and we had some strategies such as attacking from deep. All credit to our players for their great heart and discipline out there.

"If we score from deep, teams will worry."

Baber's worry today is the yellow card count against the players.

"Discipline is another worry and we talked about that. We play Samoa tomorrow (today) and we played them recently. We will take some stuff from that.

"We want to keep progressing and we have 12 healthy players with just a knock on Nasilasila's leg, but we are on good form. He should be fit tomorrow (today)."

Fiji scored three tries against the Aussies: Eroni Sau (2) and Jasa Veremalua. The Aussies managed to score three tries.

* Quarter-finals: Fiji vs Samoa (Fiji time 11.36am), England vs NZ, Kenya vs Australia, South Africa vs Scotland.
