Garden Island

Mukesh Chottu, Naqara, Taveuni
Saturday, February 03, 2018

I believe some irresponsible people still don't take pride in our Garden Island. Yesterday morning, while driving along our coastal road, I saw a lady tossing a plastic full of rubbish along the roadside near the Korean jetty in Lovonivonu.

She was a young mother and I assume it was mostly diapers.

I also saw people dumping diapers, tin cans, plastic and other items in Drekeniwai, Naselesele, and Naqara creek. Not forgetting our Prince Charles beach. Once a nice golden sandy beach, I believe it is now more of a rubbish dump. Here we are yelling about how climate change is affecting us to the world, but are we practising doing the right thing at home?

How much are we doing as responsible citizens?
