Saturday, February 03, 2018

FIJIAN rugby player, Tavite Veredamu, who is playing for France in the Hamilton 7s belives the Fiji Airways Fiji n7s team can win the inaugural tournament.

He said Fiji's defensive pattern could help the Gareth Baber-coached national side win its first tournament in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series. The looseman in rugby 15 was selected into the France team after leaving Fiji at the age of 18 to join the French Foreign Legion.

"This is my first tournament here and we are looking forward to our tough pool matches against Argentina, Scotland and New Zealand. Playing for France has encouraged me to play well," he said at the team's hotel, Novotel at Hamilton.

He said Fiji was dangerous if in good pose to strike her magic wand.

"Fiji can win the tournament. They are good at defence and they should get more balls."

He also supported Fiji's bid to host a leg of the series.

"It is a good idea for Fiji to bid to host a tournament in the series because Fiji loves sevens and it is an opportunity for Fijians also."
