Baber mum on first 7, confident of 7s feat

FIJI Airways 7s team coach Gareth Baber has kept his run-on team against Wales under wraps to help keep the players focused on winning the inaugural Hamilton 7s in New Zealand this weekend.

He wants a repeat of the start of the Wellington 7s 18 years ago when Waisale Serevi and his gallant warriors demolished Gordon Tietjens' men to win the first title.

"That's the plan and we have prepared well," Baber said after the captain's run at the Marist Rugby Club grounds in Hamilton yesterday.

"I have named the 12, but not the team to keep the players guessing and know who will be up for the game. The thirteenth player will be Apenisa Cakaubalavu and with Vatemo Ravouvou in, his kicking ability and management at the back are something we need. With Amenoni Nasilasila also at the back there will be a lot of cover. Having a calm head with Vatemo's experience is very important."

The team looked sharp and ready after training yesterday with forwards Mesulame Kunavula and Cakaubalavu alternating on the open side props, hooker was Paula Dranisinukula and Josua Vakurinabili, and the other props were Vasikali Mudu and Jasa Veremalua.

Skipper Jerry Tuwai alternated with new sensation Alusio Naduva, Nasilasila and Ravouvou 'The General' at playmakers with the Olympian from Saunaka as sweeper and commanding play. Sevuloni Mocenacagi and Eroni Sau alternated on the flanks.
