FIJI is set to host the Webb Ellis Cup in May this year as part the 2019 Rugby World Cup trophy tour.

World Rugby states that the tour will travel across 18 nations leading up to the Rugby World Cup event in Japan next year and that countries such as Chile, India, Malaysia, Nepal and Pakistan will welcome the Webb Ellis Cup for the very first time.

The tour kicked off in Uruguay and will be part of the build-up to the Uruguay versus Canada World Cup qualifying match and also visit schools.

Bill Beaumont, the World Rugby Chairman said the tour would hugely assist in the promotion of the sport.

"We are delighted to be announcing a global schedule of Rugby World Cup 2019 Trophy Tour destinations. This program will play a major role in promoting and celebrating rugby in markets that are of strategic importance to the growth of the game, while also providing a platform to showcase the excellent Impact Beyond 2019 legacy program, that is welcoming more than one million new participants to the sport in Asia," he told the World Rugby website.

More details will be released in the coming months.
