Call for nominations

THE search is now on for talented, strong and successful businesswomen including female corporate executives to be recognised at an annual premier awards event.

The Women in Business (WIB) is calling for nominations for their annual WIB awards to be held later in May of this year.

During its launch at the Westpac Bank on Thursday, WIB president Dr Nur Bano Ali called on women to submit their applications and for employers to nominate their colleagues, friends or business partners.

"The annual awards night is our largest event and the most visible undertaking in fulfilling our objectives," Dr Ali said.

"So to you all smart, talented and strong women out there, I ask you to put in your application and to those employers and friends of women, I say nominate your friend, colleague or business partner for one of the four awards for the 2018 Women in Business Awards."

Dr Ali said they anticipated to be flooded with applications with plans to promote the WIB awards night at various events.

"WIB will run various events to promote the awards and application drive here in Suva and in the West," she said.

With the theme "Times Up", the awards are in four categories — Business Woman of the Year; Executive Woman of the Year; Manager of the Year and Aspiring Entrepreneur of the Year.

* The Business Woman of the Year will be chosen for her excellence in business, idea generation, management, human resources and growth strategies as well as financial management prowess. The winner will have strict compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements and displayed a strong commitment to corporate social responsibility.

The criteria to meet are she must own 50 per cent or more of the shares in the company or business; demonstrated the ability to achieve business success and her business must be registering and operating in Fiji for more than three years at the time of her application.

* The Executive Woman of the Year will have demonstrated exemplary management and decision making acumen with proven results. She will have had a distinguished career as a senior manager/executive of an organisation with a proven record of encouraging women to achieve their career goals. The criteria to meet is she must be in a senior management position of an organisation in Fiji, holds a senior executive title and/or is the chief decision maker responsible for the day-to-day management and profitability including a demonstrated ability to achieve financial and operational success.

* The Manager of the Year will be employed at the intermediate management level, accountable to top/senior management for her department's function and with responsibility for leading lower level managers. The Manager of the Year will provide guidance to lower level managers and inspire them towards better performance. She will most likely be a head of branch or department. The criteria to meet is she is part of middle management in her organisation; she has managed a successful team and she is driving her team to excellence.

* Aspiring Entrepreneur of the Year will be the owner of a new business venture. Her business can be of any size, with sound business practices and strategies to reflect all growth opportunities.

She must be enthusiastic about her business and in compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements. The criteria to meet is she must own 50 per cent or more of the shares in the company of business; she must demonstrate the ability to achieve business success and her business must be registered and operating in Fiji for no less than one year but at least minimum of three years.

Applications will close on April 4.
