Police to receive new set of vehicles

IN a bid to improve the Fiji Police Force's mobility in providing better services to the public, the police will be receiving a new set of motorcycles and vehicles soon.

This was revealed by the Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho, who said they had analysed the force's land mobility needs and identified a figure that went with the restructure process they were working on with Government.

"The force will be receiving 120 motorcycles. In the coming weeks, we will be receiving the first lot of 30 motorcycles and in March as well. They have been purchased by the Government through Asco Motors Fiji with their Yamaha police motorcycles of various engine capacities," Brig-Gen Qiliho said.

"There are 30 (900cc), 30 (600cc) and the rest are 250cc Yamaha bikes. We are also working with the Ministry of Economy in receiving these leased vehicles that the Government had arranged for us.

"We have continued to receive vehicles late last year and more is in the process of being channelled to the force."

He added apart from the motorcycles, the police would receive 50 specialised police vehicles — given by the Chinese government.

"They are fitted for police work. They have alarm systems and police marked cameras. We have been in talks and I know we will be receiving them because we can't see these types of vehicles being utilised anywhere else," he said.

"I have been stressing the importance of caring for these vehicles. It is very important we get out there and utilise them responsibly for the purpose they were acquired for."

He said Government had been assisting the police in a great way in dealing with mobility.
