Final phase for extension work

WORK on the Vatusui water extension in Ba has entered its final phase.

A statement from the Water Authority of Fiji said this meant complaints by customers about frequent bursts of the main and low water pressure would soon end.

"The main extension will benefit close to another 36 consumers who will be linked to the WAF reticulation system," the statement said. "They will have a 24/7 supply of clean and safe drinking water, available at the turn of a tap in their homes. This will eliminate the need for water carting within the Vatusui area during the dry season. Although water has been carted four times a month to these residents, it has not been sufficient to meet their needs."

According to WAF, the project began in October 2017, and cost about $350,000.

The projected completion date is April this year.

"The work has involved laying a total of 78 lengths of 100metre polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipes with proper bedding and backfill material and a total of 153 lengths of 50millimetre PVC pipes," WAF said.

"It included construction of the base for the booster pump at Vatusui."
