Praise for gender representation in parliament

Friday, February 02, 2018

Update: 2:17PM IT IS about time there were many women in the House of Parliament, citizens in Naitasiri told the Speaker of the house this week.

Speaking during a 'Parliament Bus' outreach programme conducted in the province on Wednesday January 31,  people praised gender representation in parliament.

According to a statement from the Fiji Parliament,  56 year old Sakaraia Nakatasavu of Wainawaqa Village in Naitasiri was full of praise.

Mr Nakatasavu was one of villagers from Nadakuni, Navurevure and Wainawaqa who went to  Nadakuni Village hall to meet parliament staff.

"So many times I've heard about gender-equality. In these modern times, we have no control over these issues and its about time that we have a good number of women represented in Parliament," Mr Nakatasavu said.

"For me, women are very good in holding key leadership positions. A very good example is the leadership role that Speaker plays in Parliament."
