Tabiu's journey

Friday, February 02, 2018

TABIU Tikoinadi, who hails from Taveuni Island, has spent two years in construction work in Hunan, China and he was recommended to be part of the project in April 2016 because he had a loyal and honest work attitude.

The Chinese staff members accepted him for the first time and provided him with accommodation at their living quarters with daily meals.

He lived with everyone every day and soon integrated well with the China Railway Construction 14 Bureau family.

He was a pick-up truck driver in the project.

Mr Tikoinadi gets up at half past four every day, takes a bath, has breakfast, and then picks up and sends workers to work every day.

If materials were needed urgently at the construction site, he would be the first person to send it to the workers.

He usually sends cement, pull bricks, small equipment and buys gasoline and other items when the need arises and if there is less manpower, he will personally step in to assist.

He knew perfectly well that what he did was not just working for the Chinese people, but also doing good for the people of Fiji.

He witnessed the opening of the two new bridges and would soon return home to reunite with his parents.
