TEAM Fiji officials are closely monitoring the individual sports who will represent the nation in the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia in April.

Team Fiji general manager Christopher Yee said some national sporting bodies opted to train overseas for the competition which included table tennis and weight-lifting.

"A lot of sports have gone overseas for the intensive training for the Commonwealth Games and Fiji Table Tennis Association players are also in Melbourne, Australia for training," Yee said.

"One of their young players, Vicky Wu who got back from Melbourne, was selected to attend the training at the high-performance centre last month and he took part in the Melbourne Open where he won the under-13 boys' singles and doubles competitions.

"He also competed in the under-15 and under-20 boys' doubles competition.

"The rest of the players are training here and building up towards the Commonwealth Games."

Meanwhile, Yee said Fiji netball team players were fighting for a place in the final team to the Commonwealth Games.

"Netball team is working hard on their skill work with the conditioning and strategies.

"That is their main focus of the next seven weeks and they also have international matches which have been scheduled in March where they will play in Auckland, New Zealand," he said.

"They will play Test matches against New Zealand, Jamaica, and Malawi."

The Commonwealth Games will be held from April 4-15.
