Namuka cricket team optimistic of Easter tourney

THE Namuka-i-Lau cricket team is confident of a better outing at this year's Easter cricket competition scheduled in Suva.

The side has selected its 11-member team to travel to Suva after tough battles against their fellow village boys over the past weeks.

Former coach and senior player Buli Kolinisau says the team is laced with some enterprising players who have what it takes to compete with other top teams at the competition. He said the team had been training in the village and had set its target to improve from their past year's performances. "The team had been selected and this year is going to be a good year for us," said Kolinisau.

"We have some good players in the team including those that have represented the village to Suva in the previous tournaments.

"We didn't win any game in our first year but we managed to win few more games the following year and we are aiming to better our performance this year.

"The boys have been playing and training in the village to perfect some of the basics and we are confident of our chances.

Kolinisau said the boys were urged to make use of the trip and for the players to give their best in their quest to secure a spot in the national team.

"Sport is a source of employment these days and we are stressing to the players the significance of this trip and to give their best in all the games. We are also anticipating for some of these players to be selected for the national team and we have been working hard to stamp our mark this year."

The team is expected to leave for Suva later this month.

Easter Games team: Tukana Lesi, Buli Kolinisau, Hendry James, Saito Joji, Temo Naca, John Bornman, Joji Semanakau (coach), Roli Marika, Ledua Vulaono, Tukai Lote and Jackie Bernard.
