Company responds to customer allegations

AS of now we have delivered about 80 per cent of the water tanks that were ordered by customers in Nadi and Lautoka, says Gurbachan Singh's Steel Mills Ltd director Jasveer Singh.

Mr Singh made the comments yesterday in reaction to a Consumer Council of Fiji press release issued on Wednesday saying 20 customers had registered complaints with the council on the non-delivery of water tanks which they had paid for.

"I'm asking our customers not to panic as we are working overtime to deliver the remaining tanks by at least midday today," Mr Singh said.

He said this would allow customers to fill up their water tanks tonight.

The council had raised its concern after receiving 20 complaints from customers in Nadi and Lautoka over the delay in delivery of the water tanks which they had ordered and paid in expectation of the planned four-day water shutdown in their area by Water Authority of Fiji starting at 1am tomorrow.

While the council was doing its job in looking after the interests of consumers, Mr Singh said customers should understand the situation they had to cope with most of their tanks stored in their yard in Suva.

"We are delivering the tanks free of charge but some customers, who were understanding, even collected the tanks from our Suva yard at their own costs. We should be helping each other out in times like this," he said.

Mr Singh also said part of the blame should be directed to his own staff members for accepting money from customers first before discussing finer details of delivery time etc, with them.
