PLANS are in the pipeline to build new health facilities for the wider Suva-Nausori corridor to improve accessibility, said Health and Medical Services Minister Rosy Akbar while officiating at the senior management meeting at the Holiday Inn Suva.

"In the Suva-Nausori corridor there are new health facilities to open that will uplift the health services and improve accessibility. We are looking at the new Makoi Maternity Unit and Naulu (Nakasi Health Centre) along with Waimaro Health facility in Ra and Keyasi Health Centre," she said.

Ms Akbar acknowledged the support from the stakeholders who helped develop the health sector.

"As far as the development sector is concerned, Fiji is broadening its partnership with international and local partners to strengthen our multispectral approach. I am pleased to say that we continue to receive very strong and positive support from all our stakeholders, namely UNICEF, DFAT, WHO, UNFPA, SPC to name a few. And this year, we will continue to expand our horizon for increased partnerships to develop our health services," she said.

Other developments include the Valelevu Health Centre that provides services to 578 patients on a 24-hour basis.

Ms Akbar said the timely assistance of 30 new ambulances from the People's Republic of China was a boost to the ambulance services in Fiji.
