Touch talent search

THE Suva Touch Association wants to rope in more young players in the competition to develop those who could represent the country in future.

The Fiji touch team will compete in the two international competitions next year where the side will play in the 2019 Touch World Cup in Malaysia and Pacific Games in Samoa.

"We will start competition in March and it will run for about 12 weeks and we are expecting the competition to bring the best out of the players since it is an important year for the touch players," STA president Charles Cleary said.

"It is an important year for us with World Cup and Pacific Games coming up next year.

"Most of our talents have gone overseas and we are trying to get more young players in the competition."

Cleary said it was important for them to ensure there were quality players available for selection in future.

"We would be carrying out some developments in the secondary schools," he said.

"It is a new sport for most of them and they hardly see the six touch which we play compared to one touch."
