POLICE officers in the country have a role to play and lead by example, which means they also have to be healthy and fit at all times, says Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho.

He opened police's BSP Life-sponsored gymnasium at the Fiji Police Force headquarters in Centerpoint, Suva yesterday in a bid to see his officers be able to provide better and timely services to the people.

"I have been emphasising the issue of health and wellbeing. Part of it, I must thank the committee coming with the idea of having a gym here for the officers," Brig-Gen Qiliho said.

"We have a police gym at Nasova as well. Our health audit has indicated to us where the force stood, health wise, and it is very important to get our health and fitness issues right to deliver the needed value to the people."

He said a physically and mentally healthy person would be able to produce the outputs the people of Fiji demanded from police.

Brig-Gen Qiliho said for the past two years, people had seen pollice officers going on runs during morning and lunch breaks and now they had another option to utilise and get officers fit and into shape, to deliver.
