Workshop to upskill market vendors

FOOD vendors in Labasa are looking forward to being better equipped on knowledge of food handling and catering when they attend a one-week workshop next Monday.

Labasa market master Shalendra Chand said the workshop was to educate vendors on how best to provide services to their customers.

"The idea of organising a workshop was basically to broaden vendors' knowledge on how to handle food when serving their customers and even learn a bit about having a proper licence to operate their business," he said.

Mr Chand says the workshop will also lead to healthy food tips that vendors could provide their customers.

"The workshop would also lead to more knowledge of working in a healthy and clean environment," he said.

Mr Chand said they had plans to provide three tents at a food parcel market to cater for customers.

"The three tents are funded by the UN Women to help cater for customers during rainy season and it will be distributed to the three lines of stalls at the food parcel market," he said.

Food parcel vendors' association president Maraia Waqa said they looked forward to more future workshops and developments within the market.
