THE Ministry of Health and Medical Services permanent secretary, Philip Davies, is the latest expatriate to tender his resignation letter after 16 months in office.

In a statement issued by Public Service Commission chairman Vishnu Mohan, who on September 13, 2016, announced Mr Davies' appointment, said Mr Davies would be leaving the ministry to spend time with his family in the UK.

"At the request of Mr Davies, this resignation takes effect immediately," Mr Mohan said.

"In his stead Mrs Susan Kiran, with the agreement of the Prime Minister, has been appointed as the acting permanent secretary of Health and Medical Services.

"This appointment takes effect immediately."

The statement said Mrs Kiran would continue to hold the office of Cabinet secretary.

Mr Davies is the sixth expat to leave our shores.

The others were former PS for Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport Paul Bayly, former PS for Ministry of Communications and Information Technology Ewan Perrin, former PS for Ministry of Foreign Affairs Robin Nair, former Land Transport Authority CEO Carmine Piantedosi and former FRA chief executive officer John Hutchinson, who all cited personal or family commitments as their reasons for their resignation.
