Heavy rain for islands

Update: 11:26AM THE Fiji Meteorological Service has issued a heavy rain alert for the Yasawa and Mamanuca Groups of Islands at 8.30am today.

The warning is also in force for Viti Levu, Vanua Levu, Lau and the Lomaiviti Group as well.

According to the Nadi Weather Office, a trough of low pressure lies just to the west of the country and is slowly moving towards Fiji.

Associated cloud and rain is affecting the country.

People should expect occasional rain, heavy at times, few thunderstorms over the Yasawa and Mamanuca Groups, Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, Lau and Lomaiviti Groups.

Rain will become heavy and frequent from tonight and localised heavy falls could lead to flash flooding of low-lying areas.

The next special weather bulletin will be issued around 2.50pm or earlier.
