THE Fiji Roads Authority Fiji (FRA) is constructing 84 bus shelters around the country within the next seven months.

The construction of the 84 new bus shelters will provide bus commuters better accessibility and comfort, says FRA.

"Priority has been given to areas that are mostly in front of schools and health centres and they will be replacing the old bus shelters with new ones and it was important to get the best service to the public," FRA said in a statement.

FRA highlighted the new bus shelters had a Category 4 cyclone certification and was designed strong enough to withstand during tropical cyclones.

FRA said the new bus shelter was designed in-house and they had engaged two local contractors to install the shelters.

"While they were constructing new assets for communities, they were concerned about the acts of vandalism on their road assets," FRA said.

"We are advising the public to look after these assets for your own benefits and please be vigilant and report all instances of vandalism to the Fiji Police Force".

FRA revealed that there would be more bus shelters constructed in the future as there were a lot of requests coming in from the public.
