Tabuya hits out at FEO supervisor

FORMER leader of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) Lynda Tabuya has called out Fijian Elections Office (FEO) supervisor Mohammed Saneem for breaching the code of confidentiality.

Ms Tabuya labelled Mr Saneem's actions as "abuse of office" at a press conference in Suva yesterday after she claimed he disclosed the minutes of the PDP management board meeting to the media.

"Mohammed Saneem chose to disclose confidential minutes of the PDP's management board meeting to the media — he is duty-bound not to reveal the copy of the memorandum of understanding (MoU)," Ms Tabuya said.

Ms Tabuya is calling on PDP to file a complaint with the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) on the matter.

"Mohammed Saneem has breached the code of confidentiality that he is bounded by in an ongoing investigation."

In a statement by FEO, Mr Saneem, said Ms Tabuya had completely failed her understanding of the law and was misguided when she said Mr Saneem revealed minutes of the meeting.

"We have once again noted that she completely fails in her understanding of the law and is surely misguided when she says that the SoE released minutes of the meeting on December 7, 2017.

"The Supervisor of Elections (SoE) has the power to make public its findings when exercising public function such as the current case of requiring the PDP to comply with the law."

Mr Saneem said Ms Tabuya revealed more information about the meeting and the role of Felix Anthony in PDP compared with what was found by the SoE.

Ms Tabuya stated that Mr Anthony is no longer a part of PDP and was present at the meeting merely as consultant on workers' issues as he is the national secretary of the Fiji Trades Union Congress.

"Felix does attend management board meetings to consult and to advise on workers issues as the FTUC representative since they rightly formed PDP," Ms Tabuya said.
