ANOTHER youth group in the highlands of Navosa was the beneficiary of a $2500 funding from the Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation.

The charity organisation this month visited communities along the Coral Coast and Navosa highlands to help boost self-help projects for women and youth groups.

Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation executive Ambalika Prakash said the foundation had provided support to community-based youth clubs since 2011.

"Our challenge to youth and women's clubs is to sustain and grow the seed money that they receive from the foundation," she said.

One of the latest beneficiaries was Waikanikia Youth Club, whose leader Sakaraia Katonivere said the assistance would help their 42 members.

"Our village is situated in a very remote area, therefore, the support will help us cater for food and school essentials for our village needs," he said.

Youth president Marika Tuibau said the assistance would fund a canteen run by the club.

"We hardly get support, hence our plans are to sustain the canteen project and to continuously cater for our people," he said.

"We have started working on our canteen project.

"We have frequent meetings and we also share our plans and updates at village council and tikina council meetings, which is then shared at provincial council meeting."

"The governance reporting also keeps us accountable and responsible.

"Every small funding we receive, we ensure that we put it to good use."

Nadroga Navosa Provincial Council youth coordinator Marika Nagata commended the youth group and the foundation for their work.

"We continue to support these youth groups," he said.

"If they identify training needs, we help them with these training and counselling.

"We are also using the religious or faith-based organisations in the vicinity to do the same for these youths."
